The University of Missouri Athletic program received its fourth donation of eight figures in the last five years. An anonymous donor gifted the university $10 million to go towards an indoor practice facility upgrade. University of Missouri Athletic Director Jim Sterk announced the gift on Thursday afternoon.
Sterk notes that the new indoor facility will significantly improve the athletic program’s ability to provide state of the art practice facilities and will include a full-length football field. The facility will give athletes the ability to train year-round, but it will provide the school facilities comparable to other SEC programs.
The ability to compete from a facilities standpoint is essential. The University of Missouri is the northernmost school in the Southeastern Conference and, as such, is prone to the volatile weather patterns that central Missouri is known for. It makes Columbia a much more attractive destination for elite recruits. Couple that with the recent hire of former NFL head coach Steve Wilks and you have the makings of a powerful recruiting draw for top athletes.
