The Good Doctor's weekly football picks

Not too bad for a first week I suppose. I went 3-2 last week. Remember it's the spread that counts. I may have picked Fresno St to beat Michigan, but I said take them to cover. The spread was 21.5 and they indeed covered, by the skin of their teeth. This week, things get even more interesting with the NFL opening the season. I will pick 5 games between the pros and college. Here we go:

  1. Texas at Michigan-Listen, I'm not shying away from the tough games. This is one of them. Texas has one of the best rosters in the country, probably top-5 in all of CFB, but Michigan has that defense. You can keep that defense Wolverines because Texas goes into the Big House and steals one. Michigan doesn't have the offensive weapons to keep up with the Longhorns. Texas 24, Michigan 16

  2. Boise State at Oregon-This will be a close game. I still think Oregon wins, but do not be shocked if this one goes down to the wire. Boise State is better than a lot of folks think. Oregon 34, Boise State 28

  3. Green Bay at Philadelphia-This is one of those games that I wouldn't touch for any money. Both teams could easily represent the NFC in the Super Bowl at the end of the season and both teams could be sitting at home come Wild Card weekend. I think the Packers will have the better team at the end of the season, however, Philly is playing at home with a chip on their shoulder right now. Eagles 24, Packers 17

  4. Pittsburgh at Atlanta-This is one of those games that fascinates me. Can Pittsburgh get Russell Wilson to actually put together a good game? Can the former Seahawk resurrect his fading career? I'm not a believer. Atlanta is a young, upstart squad. They could surprise a lot of people this season. Kirk Cousins leads this group of Dirty Birds over the Steelers. Get ready Steelers Nation, if you keep Russ at QB, you will be in for a long, painful ride. Falcons 20, Steelers 12

  5. New York Jets at San Francisco-We all know what happened to Aaron Rodgers last season. All that hype ended in a matter of seconds. The Niners are coming off their second Super Bowl loss to Kansas City but are healthy and looked primed to be a top dawg in the NFC. I think the Jets will have a good season, but the Niners nip them in Frisco. 49ers 26, Jets 20
